
A video of American presenter and actor Steve Harvey where he suggests men can’t be friends with women has long past viral.
In a 2010 interview, Harvey explains he doesn’t have any female friends, partly due to his spouse but mostly to his incapacity of setting up significant, Platonic relationships with women.
“I’m incapable of that,” Harvey says in the video, reposted on TikTok.
Steve Harvey Suggests Men And Women Can’t Be Friends
When the reporter asks him why is that, he turns out hesitant. Then he proceeds to inform the offscreen reporter that she is “a gorgeous woman” as by some means that is related to what he's about to mention.
“There is some man, somewhere, pronouncing, ‘Yeah, we’re friends.’ No, that’s no longer true,” Harvey says.
“He’s your buddy most effective as a result of you've got made it completely transparent that nothing else is going on except this friendship [you] have,” he continues.
The actor and presenter turns out to indicate that each one men are unable to strike a friendship with a lady because they're inevitably waiting for one thing romantic and/or sexual to happen.
"We remain your friends in hope that one day there’ll be a crack in the door, a chink in the armor and trust and believe, that guy that you think is just your buddy, he will slide in that crack the moment he gets the opportunity,” Harvey says.
“Cause we’re guys,” he adds.
He finally tells the reporter: “99.9% of us think that way.”
Steve Harvey Slammed On Socials For Sexist Statements
While some took to social media to defend Harvey and his decade-old interview, many have been slamming him for his sexist views.
“I’m sayin tho if you’re building a friendship with a woman only based on the fact one day you might be able to take advantage of her trust then there’s some issues you have to workout for yourself,” one user commented.
“Steve Harvey basically said, “I objectify women, but who doesn’t? It is what it is,” was another comment.
"Steve Harvey is a misogynist and sexist so let’s start there. He is ‘incapable’ of being friends with woman because he doesn’t see their price as people beyond what he can get for them sexually. That’s a flaw on his section. If he seen women as other folks, this wouldn’t be an issue,” some other tweet reads.
